Finnish commercial TV channel, Nelonen, has commissioned a series of 10 episodes of Gil Formats’ factual entertainment format, ‘Pregnant & Platonic’.

Produced by ITV Studios in Finland, the series is now in production and will premiere on Nelonen during 2019. This represents the second commission of the format, following the BBC commission last year. The UK version is scheduled to premiere on BBC2 during 2019 as well.

The format was also optioned in France, Spain, and Germany.

The format, co-developed by Gil Formats with US based production company MY Entertainment, centres on men and women who are looking to have a child without getting romantically involved, through the process of co-parenting. It is based on Gil Formats’ CEO, Assaf Gil’s personal journey to parenthood.

In this format, hopeful co-parents are guided through the process by experts who introduce them to potential parenting partners.  Once they choose a partner to have a child with, the series will follow the couples over the course of a year as they face numerous challenges and difficult decisions before they can turn their dreams of becoming parents into a reality.

Each story will hopefully climax with a baby being born.
